|
WASHINGTON, DC - The Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) is pleased
to announce that, after a nationwide search, George McDonald has been appointed
USAC Vice President with overall responsibility for the Schools and Libraries
Division (SLD).
Mr. McDonald has been serving as acting head of that Division until the search
was completed. Mr. McDonald has served as Director of Operations of SLD since
the establishment of USAC in 1998 and, prior to that, with the Schools and Libraries
Corporation. Mr. McDonald replaces Kate Moore who earlier resigned to pursue
a teaching career in the Washington, DC, public school system.
In his new position, Mr. McDonald will manage all aspects of the $2.25 billion
universal service support mechanism for schools and libraries, commonly known
as the E-rate. Prior to coming to USAC, Mr. McDonald had a very successful career
with the Federal Government and prior to joining USAC was Deputy Director of
the Office of Budget and Program Performance for the Department of Transportation.
Mr. McDonald is a graduate of Fordham University and holds a B.A. in Mathematics.
Cheryl Parrino, USAC CEO, noted that "our national search provided us with
a number of qualified candidates, but, in the end, the best was in our own backyard.
He is very well respected by key stakeholders and brings a wealth of experience
as well as a proven track record of success with the program."
USAC is a not-for-profit company responsible for the administration of all
universal service support programs, which include the High Cost Program, the
Low Income Program, the Rural Health Care Program and the Schools and Libraries
Program.
